About First Step Home Inc
First Step Home is an addiction treatment center for women in Cincinnati’s Walnut Hills neighborhood, serving adult women with substance use disorders since 1993. They are the only program in the greater Cincinnati area where children up to age 12 can live with their mothers during treatment, and their work centers on helping women rebuild their families while breaking the cycle of drug and alcohol use. Their continuum of care includes residential treatment, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and standard outpatient services, all grounded in trauma-informed care and the view that addiction is a treatable condition.
The residential program is staffed around the clock and accepts pregnant and non-pregnant women 18 and older, combining housing, individual and group counseling, medication maintenance, nursing support, childcare, and case management, with children able to stay with their mothers when space permits. The IOP meets on weekday mornings and builds individualized plans that address both substance use and mental health, adding family therapy, medication management, vocational training, peer support, and help through their Maternal Addiction Program. IOP clients live with their children in housing a short walk from the main center. Women who live in the community can continue in outpatient treatment, which focuses on relapse prevention, wellness, and resiliency through individual, couples, group, and family counseling, along with a Child Resiliency Program.
