About Family Outreach Center Inc

Family Outreach Center is a nonprofit behavioral health agency in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that has served adults, children, and families across Kent County since 1979, with additional programs in Muskegon County. They focus on low-income, underinsured, and uninsured families and on historically underserved inner-city residents, and they provide care regardless of ability to pay. Their work spans mental health and substance use, including co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. On the addiction side, they offer outpatient counseling, a Substance Use Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and community-based recovery support, with daytime and evening appointments available.

The IOP is built for people whose primary diagnosis is a substance use disorder, offering structured, intensive treatment while participants keep up with work, school, or family responsibilities. Their Recovery Management program brings outreach into the community to help people manage addiction alongside mental health concerns, and the Family Engagement Program sends a team into the home to help break cycles of substance use within families. They also deliver screening, crisis intervention, diversion, specialized groups, and individual substance use counseling inside the Kent County and Muskegon County jails. Trauma-informed care is a priority, with EMDR available for adults and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) offered to children, teens, and their caregivers.
