About Family Guidance Center

Family Guidance Center is a community behavioral health provider based in Saint Joseph, Missouri, serving nine counties across northwest Missouri, including Buchanan, Andrew, Clinton, and Nodaway. They work with people ages 3 and up on mental health concerns and substance use disorders, mainly through outpatient care, medication services, and therapy. Their approach is holistic, so treatment can also address family, vocational, spiritual, and relationship needs alongside the issues a person chooses to focus on. They also help with disease management education and referrals to other local resources.

Outpatient care is team-based and can draw on case management, peer support, substance use specialists, and a medication management provider, with dedicated tracks for substance use disorders, adult mental health, and children and youth. Medication Assisted Treatment is available for people who want medication as part of their recovery. Therapy is goal-oriented, and individuals and families help shape the treatment plan, with options including cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused CBT, EMDR, solution-focused therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, and the Neurosequential Model of Treatment. For urgent needs, they run a walk-in Behavioral Health Urgent Care clinic on weekdays, and their crisis staff respond across the nine-county area around the clock.
