About Family Access Center

Family Access Center is a community-based behavioral health agency in Council Bluffs, Iowa, offering substance use, mental health, and behavioral health services to children, adults, and families. Founded in 2005 as Transitional Services of Iowa, they have since grown to include offices in Sioux City and Spencer, and they hold state licensure, Iowa Chapter 24 and Chapter 155 credentials, and Medicaid and Medicare certification. Their care is evidence-based and individually tailored, with attention to the emotional, physical, behavioral, and spiritual sides of recovery. Insurance, private pay, and a sliding fee scale are accepted.

Substance use treatment begins with a clinical evaluation, which can also be paired with a mental health assessment. Clients then build a treatment plan alongside staff, with the intensity of services matched to the severity, duration, and complexity of their addiction. Families are brought into the process to help strengthen motivation for change and mend strained relationships. Licensed therapists provide mental health therapy for individuals, couples, families, and groups, while peer recovery coaches with lived experience offer non-clinical mentoring in the office or out in the community. They also run OWI evaluations, the Prime for Life course for people with drunk driving charges, skill-building behavioral health intervention services, domestic violence intervention, and court-ordered supervised visitation aimed at family reunification.
