About El Centro Family Health

El Centro Family Health is a nonprofit community health center based in Española, New Mexico, serving rural and underserved communities across seven Northern New Mexico counties through a network of clinics. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, they provide medical, dental, and behavioral health care to more than 19,000 patients a year. Their approach centers on access, cultural respect, and keeping care close to home in a region where distance and cost often stand in the way. Their roots go back to the early 1970s, and they have grown from a single grassroots effort into a regional health system.

Their behavioral health team offers counseling, therapy, and psychiatric care. Because these services sit alongside primary medical care, a person can address mental health and physical health within the same organization, with case management and telehealth helping to reach people in remote communities. Their Chief Clinical Officer is board-certified in addiction and family medicine and focuses on caring for people with opioid use disorder, especially pregnant women and new mothers. They also run school-based health centers that bring counseling and medical services directly to students, and they accept Medicaid, Medicare, and most private insurance, with a sliding fee scale for uninsured patients.
