Egyptian Health Department is a public health and human services agency serving Gallatin, Saline, and White counties in Southern Illinois, including the Shawneetown area. Alongside public health nursing, environmental health, and youth and adult behavioral health, they run a Substance Use Prevention & Recovery division that offers outpatient treatment for adults and adolescents. Care is built around personalized treatment plans delivered by an interdisciplinary counseling team. Services are open to people struggling with substance use and to those whose lives have been affected by someone else’s use.

Outpatient treatment combines individual, group, and family counseling with connections to self-help groups, and it starts with a comprehensive assessment that looks at both substance use and mental health needs. For opioid dependence, counselors work alongside a physician-led medical team to provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) counseling. They also offer DUI evaluations and risk education, problem gambling services, and school-based prevention programs for 5th through 8th graders in Gallatin and White County schools. Adults already receiving mental health or substance use care can join the Healthcare Integration Program, which coordinates primary and behavioral health care and offers health screenings, smoking cessation, anger management, diabetes education, nutrition and weight management classes, and exercise activities. Referrals come from individuals, families, schools, employers, and the criminal justice system.
