About Ebony House Inc

Ebony House Inc, now operating as Ebony House Behavioral Health Outpatient Services, is a nonprofit behavioral health organization in Phoenix, Arizona, that has served the community since 1973. They were founded by Elbertzena Fontenot, a woman in recovery from alcoholism, who saw that Phoenix’s Black community needed a place to address drinking problems. Today they welcome people of all races and ethnic backgrounds, helping adults, children, and families work through substance use, behavioral health concerns, HIV/AIDS, and family instability. Their adult outpatient care is geared toward people whose substance use or behavioral issues have begun to strain relationships, work, or school.

Counseling is the core of their work, combining evidence-based methods with a culturally sensitive approach shaped around each client’s goals. Clients can take part in individual sessions, group counseling, family therapy, and substance abuse counseling focused on addiction recovery and relapse prevention, with support for co-occurring concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief. For younger clients, a youth outpatient program helps children and adolescents stabilize behaviors that affect their relationships at home and with peers. They also run a Maternal Recovery Program for women facing substance use during pregnancy and early motherhood, which focuses on emotional stability and healthy transitions into parenting.
