About Ebony House Inc

Ebony House Inc, now operating as Ebony House Behavioral Health Outpatient Services, is a nonprofit behavioral health and substance use treatment provider in Phoenix, Arizona. They were founded in 1973 by Elbertzena Fontenot, a woman in recovery from alcoholism who saw that Phoenix’s Black community needed a place to address alcohol addiction. They have since grown to serve adults, children, and families of every background. Their work covers substance use and behavioral health concerns, along with support related to HIV/AIDS, child abuse, and keeping families together. Care is centered on outpatient services for adults whose substance use or behavioral issues are straining relationships, work, or school, plus a dedicated outpatient track for youth.

Counseling is the core of their programming, with individual sessions, family therapy, group counseling, and substance use counseling focused on recovery and relapse prevention. Their approach pairs evidence-based methods with culturally sensitive care, and clinicians also help clients work through anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief alongside addiction. Children and teens receive age-appropriate support for behaviors that affect their relationships at home and with peers, as well as for school stress and self-esteem. Their Maternal Recovery Program supports women facing substance use during pregnancy and early motherhood, with a focus on emotional stability and healthy transitions.
