About Drug and Alcohol Treatment Services

Drug and Alcohol Treatment Service (DATS) is a private, non-profit outpatient addiction treatment agency in Scranton, Pennsylvania, serving Lackawanna County for decades. They view chemical dependency as a chronic, progressive disease, and their treatment centers on changing destructive behaviors and building a life free of mood-altering substances. Care is offered through an Intensive Outpatient Program with at least nine hours of weekly therapy and a traditional outpatient track of up to eight hours per week, available in person or by telehealth. DATS is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Drug & Alcohol Programs, accepts most commercial and public insurance, offers a sliding fee scale, and will not turn anyone away for inability to pay.

Each client starts with an initial consultation that determines a diagnosis and the right level of care, followed by an individualized plan combining individual, group, and family counseling. Adolescents have their own programming focused on addressing problems caused by substance use and building healthier habits, and DATS also performs on-site assessments at Lackawanna County schools on request. Certified Recovery Specialists with lived experience offer peer support to people at any stage, including those not yet ready to engage in treatment, while targeted case management helps clients connect with mental health care, primary care, housing, transportation, child care, and vocational resources. Additional offerings include a co-occurring disorder program, criminal justice and first offender programs, student and employee assistance programs, and referrals for medication-assisted treatment.
