About Detroit Recovery Project
Detroit Recovery Project is a community-based behavioral health organization in Detroit, Michigan, and they have been serving the city since 2005. As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, they bring substance use treatment, mental health care, and primary medical care together under one roof for people dealing with addiction, mental illness, or both. Their approach is holistic and client-centered, recognizing that many people with substance use disorders also live with co-occurring mental health conditions. Care is delivered on an outpatient basis, and a 24-hour crisis line is available.
Substance use outpatient treatment typically involves one individual session and one to two group sessions each week, adjusted to each person’s needs. For those who already have some recovery time, such as people stepping down from inpatient care or returning home after incarceration, non-clinical peer recovery support pairs them with others who have walked the same path. Medical services include Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD), primary care, psychiatric services, and a mobile medical unit offering urgent care, wound care, and HIV and hepatitis C treatment, alongside rapid HIV, hepatitis C, and syphilis testing. They also offer youth peer recovery support in Detroit schools, harm reduction education, case management, a Strengthening Families program, free language assistance including ASL, and community workforce training through their Recovery Training Institute.
