About Danville Pittsylvania Community Servs
Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services is the public behavioral health provider for residents of Danville and Pittsylvania County, Virginia, offering mental health, substance use, developmental disability, and prevention services. Their substance use care is outpatient and community-based. It is built around meeting people where they are and treating them in the least restrictive setting possible, with support for co-occurring mental health conditions. Alongside counseling and medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction, they run a 24/7 crisis center with mobile crisis response, 23-hour crisis stabilization, and short-term community stabilization. Care is open to any county or city resident, no one is turned away for inability to pay, and a sliding fee scale based on income and family size is available.
Adults enter outpatient care through a Rapid Access process and work with master’s-level licensed or license-eligible therapists. Together they build a treatment plan that can draw on individual and group counseling, peer support, psychoeducation, substance use case management, psychiatric evaluation, medication monitoring, and aftercare. The MAT program requires a screening for eligibility and ongoing participation in counseling and related services, and free child care and transportation are available to people enrolled in substance use outpatient services. Specialized options include a postpartum program for pregnant and new mothers with substance use concerns and their infants, the Alpha recovery program run with the Danville City Jail, on-site jail assessment and counseling, and SASSI substance use evaluations for self-referred or court-ordered clients, which carry a fee.
