Cummins Behavioral Health Systems is a private nonprofit founded in 1972 that provides mental health and substance use care across Indianapolis and Marion County, as well as Boone, Hendricks, Montgomery, Putnam, and nearby Indiana counties. They serve children, teens, and adults through office and community-based outpatient care, guided by SAMHSA’s Wellness and Recovery Model and a trauma-informed, whole-health approach that addresses physical and behavioral needs together. Their addiction services include engagement groups, standard outpatient groups, intensive outpatient treatment, relapse prevention, and individual counseling. Adults can self-refer, guardians can request care for minors, and same-day assessments are offered Monday through Thursday, with Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare, and a sliding fee scale accepted.

Their Lifelong Recovery program is built for people who have a mental health diagnosis alongside substance use, so both are treated at the same time rather than separately. The intensive outpatient track meets three hours a day, three days a week, for 12 weeks, and graduates move into a two-stage relapse prevention group focused on skills for avoiding a return to use. Psychiatrists and advanced practice nurses provide medication support for opioid, alcohol, nicotine, and sedative use, while Indiana Certified Peer Support Professionals in their own recovery sit in on IOT sessions and offer support outside of group. They also offer crisis services, care for veterans and active-duty service members, and youth and family programming, which can help families who need support for more than one person.
