About Cumberland River Behavioral Health
Cumberland River Behavioral Health is a nonprofit community mental health center that has served southeastern Kentucky since 1966, including Laurel County, where Pittsburg is located. They treat substance use disorders, mental illness, and developmental and intellectual disabilities across eight counties, with care that includes outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient, residential treatment, transitional living, and long-term recovery housing. Fees are based on ability to pay, walk-in intakes are available for outpatient services on weekdays, and clients and their families help shape their own recovery goals.
Their residential options include Crossroads, a 30-day, 12-step-based program for men with an optional transitional living stay of up to six months, and Independence House, which serves pregnant and parenting women. Women can also enter the RHOAR Center, which follows the Recovery Kentucky model with support through opioid withdrawal, life skills, education, and employment, or Cumberland Hope Community, a peer-driven program lasting up to 18 months. Adults with addiction or co-occurring mental illness can attend intensive outpatient treatment for up to six months, including through drug court and Department of Corrections partnerships, and certified assessors provide DUI education and treatment referrals. A Quick Response Team of peer specialists and clinicians runs a 24/7 hotline, reaches out after overdoses, and connects people to detox, treatment, and harm-reduction resources, while KY-Moms MATR offers case management and prevention education for pregnant and postpartum mothers.
