About County of Imperial

County of Imperial, through Imperial County Behavioral Health Services in El Centro, California, is the public behavioral health department serving Imperial Valley residents with both mental health and substance use treatment. They follow a “No Wrong Door” philosophy, so people can be connected to the right service wherever they first reach out, and care is planned around an individual assessment. Their adult and adolescent (ages 12 to 18) substance use programs offer outpatient and intensive outpatient care with ambulatory withdrawal management. Adults can also access residential withdrawal management, residential treatment, and recovery residences, while teens have access to residential treatment.

Within outpatient care, people receive assessment, individual and group counseling, family therapy, care coordination, patient education, crisis intervention, and ongoing recovery support. Medication-assisted treatment is available for opioid use disorder, as well as for alcohol and other non-opioid substance use disorders. Medi-Cal members struggling with stimulants can join a 24-week contingency management program that rewards negative drug tests with small gift cards. They also serve people in the justice system through MAT continuation screenings and court-requested assessments at the county jail and federal facilities, counseling at juvenile hall with linkage to care after release, and substance use services at nine local high schools.
