About County of Imperial

Imperial County Behavioral Health Services is the County of Imperial’s public behavioral health department, based in El Centro, California, and they offer substance use and mental health care for residents throughout the Imperial Valley. Their aim is inclusive, equitable, community-based treatment, organized so that people can get connected to help wherever they first reach out. For adults, they run state-certified outpatient and intensive outpatient programs that include ambulatory withdrawal management, along with residential withdrawal management, residential treatment, and recovery residence services. A separate adolescent program serves youth ages 12 to 18 at outpatient and intensive outpatient levels, with residential treatment also available.

Both the adult and adolescent programs begin with an assessment and then provide care coordination, individual and group counseling, family therapy, patient education, recovery services, and crisis intervention. Medication-assisted treatment is available for opioid use disorder and for alcohol and other non-opioid substance use disorders. Medi-Cal members with a stimulant use disorder can join a 24-week contingency management program that rewards negative drug tests with small gift cards, testing twice weekly for the first 12 weeks and weekly after that. They also reach people in the county jail, federal correctional facilities, and juvenile hall, where they continue MAT, complete court-requested assessments, and link people to outpatient or residential care after release, and they offer substance use services at nine local high schools.
