About County of Humboldt DHHS BH
County of Humboldt DHHS Behavioral Health in Eureka, California, runs the Adolescent Treatment Program, an outpatient substance use disorder program for young people roughly ages 12 to 18. They work with youth facing mild, moderate, or severe substance use problems, drawing on evidence-based practices from several approaches, and they encourage a parent or caregiver to take part as a support. Care can happen in the office, at home, or out in the community. The program is part of the regional Wellness & Recovery Program, which delivers Drug Medi-Cal substance use services to eligible residents.
Treatment begins with an assessment based on American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria, followed by an individualized plan. From there, teens may receive individual and group counseling, family counseling, skill development, case management, service coordination, and field-based support, along with consultation and referrals when other resources are needed. The goal is to help young people build the self-awareness and motivation to make lasting changes. A licensed marriage and family therapist and certified drug and alcohol counselors staff the program, and youth can request a screening on their own, with a caregiver, or through a referral from a community partner.
