About Counseling and Recovery Services of OK

Counseling and Recovery Services of OK is a nonprofit community mental health center serving Sand Springs, OK, and the wider northeastern Oklahoma region. They have operated since 1982 and are one of 15 centers under contract with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. They treat substance use on its own or alongside conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, and their adult services include outpatient counseling, assessment, medication management, crisis support, and opioid dependence treatment. Care is offered at little or no cost, with services available to people who are uninsured or covered by Medicaid, Medicare, or most private insurance, and the first appointment is free.

Their care is built on the Sanctuary model of trauma-informed care, and they are the only community mental health center in Oklahoma certified in that approach. At the Sand Springs office, Peers Place offers drop-in screening, crisis intervention, education, and support without an appointment, along with groups that build independent living skills. As a Medicaid Health Home, they assign a nurse to coordinate behavioral health, physical health, and wellness needs, such as lab work and follow-up visits, and they also help with housing for low-income adults and with employment placement. For families, they offer counseling for children and teens, school-based services, and 24/7 youth crisis care in Tulsa, including a 7-day inpatient crisis stabilization program for ages 10 to 17.
