About Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse

The Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA) is a nonprofit that has offered prevention, education, and treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions in Santa Barbara County, California, since 1949. They serve adults, teens, and families through several programs. Adult care ranges from 24-hour withdrawal management and residential treatment in Santa Barbara to intensive outpatient and standard outpatient care in Santa Barbara and Lompoc. Youth outpatient centers operate in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and Lompoc, every service is available in English and Spanish, Medi-Cal is accepted, and no one is turned away for inability to pay.

Their Adult Residential Treatment Services start with social model detox, where registered and certified alcohol and drug counselors provide round-the-clock support with peer community and on-call medical providers. Residential care then follows, with counseling, life skills training, family involvement, aftercare planning, and exposure to both 12-Step and SMART Recovery. Adults in Project Recovery attend at least four days a week, three hours a day, and work from an individualized plan that can include group and individual therapy, mental health treatment, medication-assisted treatment, relapse prevention, and a Nurturing Parent Program for parents referred by child welfare, probation, or themselves. At the Daniel Bryant Youth & Family Centers, young people ages 10 to 21 receive eight weeks to six months of family-centered care using approaches such as MultiDimensional Family Therapy, the Matrix Model for Teens, Seeking Safety, and Cannabis Youth Treatment, along with drug testing and gender-specific groups.
