About Cornerstone Services Inc
Cornerstone Services is a Joliet, Illinois nonprofit that has supported people with developmental disabilities, mental illnesses, physical disabilities, and sensory impairments across Will and Kankakee counties since 1969. Their work centers on choice, dignity, and helping each person live and work as fully as possible in the community. They offer employment, residential, home-based, behavioral health, and community services, and they serve more than 1,000 people with disabilities each year while also helping people find housing and jobs.
For adults with developmental disabilities, they run group homes with 24-hour staff supervision as well as supported independent living, with psychiatry, counseling, behavior analysis, dietary support, and basic nursing built into the program. Residents must have a developmental disability diagnosis and qualify for state Division of Developmental Disabilities funding, and staff can help families secure that funding. Their home-based option pairs families with a screened, trained Personal Service Worker for daily living skills, job exploration, transportation, and caregiver respite, with behavior intervention and psychiatric care available when needed. Day programming covers basic skills training, enrichment classes and clubs, and a peer-elected Consumer Council, and enrollment in home-based and community services begins through a referral from the local Independent Service Coordination agency.
