About Consejo Counseling and Referral Servs
Consejo Counseling and Referral Services is a bilingual, bicultural behavioral health organization with a location in Shelton, WA, part of a network of a dozen sites across Washington. They were founded in Seattle in 1978 as the state’s first Latino-based behavioral health provider. They are licensed by the Washington Health Care Authority and accredited by the Joint Commission. Their care is built around cultural and linguistic fit, with a particular focus on Latinx, BIPOC, and underserved communities. They serve people of all ages for substance use, mental health, domestic violence, and sexual assault, and they also offer transitional housing, school-based services, family programs, and a mobile outreach program called Consejo on Wheels.
For people involved with the legal system, Consejo partners with therapeutic courts, including drug, family recovery, mental health, veterans, and community courts. Participants are assessed quickly and connected to treatment. Planning follows a risk, needs, and responsivity framework, and progress is communicated to judicial partners. Court-involved clients can receive substance use disorder treatment, trauma-informed mental health care, structured case management, and peer support. Active clients can also join confidential therapeutic groups that draw on mindfulness, expressive arts, and community-based activities, led by facilitators who emphasize cultural humility and emotional safety.
