About Comprehensive Community Services

Comprehensive Community Services (CCS) is a nonprofit addiction treatment agency in Johnson City, Tennessee, that has been helping people with drug and alcohol problems since 1970. They follow a “No Wrong Door” philosophy and a person-centered approach, so clients can move between levels of care as their needs change, whether that means 24-hour social (non-medical) detox, adult residential treatment, intensive outpatient, or standard outpatient counseling. Because many people struggle with more than substance use, they also treat co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and trauma. CCS is CARF-accredited and licensed by the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, and they also run an adolescent residential program with an accredited, state-licensed school so teens can keep up with classes during treatment.

Care starts with screening, clinical and medical assessments, and placement based on American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria, followed by individual, family, group, and motivational counseling. Their outpatient programs are scheduled around work, school, and family life, while residential clients follow a structured 24-hour routine that addresses the psychological, emotional, physical, and spiritual sides of addiction. Recovery support includes relapse prevention, case management, drug testing, employment skills, pastoral and spiritual support, transportation, anger management, and aftercare planning for the return home. Admission priority goes to pregnant people who inject drugs, other pregnant people with substance use issues, people who inject drugs, and individuals referred by the Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole.
