About Comprehend Inc
Comprehend, Inc. is a nonprofit community mental health center serving the Buffalo Trace region of northeastern Kentucky, with an outpatient office in Fleming County alongside locations in Mason, Lewis, Robertson, and Bracken Counties. They offer integrated behavioral health and primary care, treating substance and opioid use disorders, polysubstance use, and co-occurring mental illness for adults, adolescents, and families. Care begins with a psychosocial and substance use evaluation, which leads to individual counseling, group therapy, an intensive outpatient program (available in Fleming County), medication-assisted treatment, or telehealth sessions, and they refer people needing a higher level of care to residential programs. No one is turned away for inability to pay, and a sliding fee scale is based on family size and income.
Their intensive outpatient program treats chemical dependency as a chronic disease rather than a moral failing, using education, group therapy, and 12-step meetings to address denial and the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual effects of addiction. The REACH Clinic provides buprenorphine-based care and other medication options, including Suboxone, Sublocade, Brixadi, and Vivitrol, supported by peer specialists and case managers. Specialized tracks include KY-Moms MATR for pregnant women, state-certified DUI assessment and education (offered at the Fleming office), a brief group-based program for adolescents, and services for people referred by drug courts or probation and parole. A 24/7 crisis hotline, mobile crisis response, and same-day appointments for anyone in an emergency round out their support.
