About Community Counseling Mediation Service

Community Counseling & Mediation (CCM) is a Brooklyn behavioral health and social service organization that has served underserved communities across Brooklyn and Manhattan since 1982. Their addiction care centers on ASAP (Addiction and Substance Abuse Program), an OASAS-licensed outpatient treatment program based at their Elm Place Clinic. CCM’s broader mission is to address the root causes of substance use and mental illness, including complex trauma, family instability, and homelessness, using evidence-based and culturally competent practices. Alongside substance use counseling, ASAP offers direct linkages to medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for people who may benefit from it.

ASAP combines one-on-one therapy with structured clinic groups covering Seeking Safety, recovery and relapse prevention, CBT-informed skill building, anger management, wellness self-management, and general healthcare and wellness. The work focuses on practical skills, such as recognizing personal triggers and emotional reactions, building healthy coping strategies, and developing a personalized anger management plan. Therapists draw on psychodynamic therapy, CBT, DBT, psychoeducation, and solution-focused and person-centered approaches, and bilingual services are available. The program welcomes residents of CCM’s supportive housing and people from the wider community, with weekday and Saturday hours. CCM’s Treatment Access and Prevention Services program also offers adults rapid HIV testing, PrEP and PEP navigation, case management, and referrals into their substance use and mental health services.
