About Community and Family Resources

Community and Family Resources (CFR) is an Iowa behavioral health agency serving Humboldt and the surrounding region from their Fort Dodge central campus, with additional sites in Ames, Des Moines, Webster City, and Iowa City. Their mission centers on reducing the stigma around behavioral health, supporting recovery, and strengthening community ties, and they treat substance use, mental health concerns, and problem gambling. Care spans medically monitored detox in Fort Dodge and Iowa City, adult residential treatment, intensive outpatient with room, a halfway house, intensive and extended outpatient programs, and recovery housing. Same-day substance use evaluations are available at several offices, and CFR also handles state-required OWI evaluations and DUI classes.

Residential clients take part in more than 50 hours of weekly programming, while outpatient tracks pair individual and group counseling with random drug screens, family involvement, and lessons on triggers, stress, trust, and relapse prevention. Specialty options include gender-specific groups, integrated co-occurring care, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, PTSD treatment, anger management, and jail-based programming. Medication-assisted treatment for alcohol and opioid use is available on-site in Ames, Fort Dodge, and Iowa City through a partnership with UCS Healthcare. Teens can enter the STARS program in Fort Dodge, which typically combines a 30 to 90 day residential stay with 10 to 16 weeks of outpatient groups, regular family sessions, encouragement to attend 12-step meetings, and an on-site teacher so they can keep up with school.
