About Communicare Inc

Communicare is a community mental health center based in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, serving Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, and Washington counties with behavioral health, developmental disability, and substance use services. Founded in 1967 as a community safety net, they use a sliding fee scale based on income and family size and do not turn anyone away for inability to pay. Their addiction care spans outpatient alcohol and drug counseling at clinics across the region, medication-assisted opioid treatment, intensive outpatient programming, a 28-day residential program for women, and supportive recovery housing. A 24/7 crisis line is also available for anyone needing immediate help.

Their office-based opioid treatment program runs 18 to 24 months and pairs medication with therapy for co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns. Women who are pregnant, postpartum, or parenting have several dedicated options, including the CARF-accredited EAST Center, where qualifying mothers can keep a child with them during residential treatment, and the EasternCare recovery residence, where children under five can live with their mothers. Passages offers subsidized transitional housing with onsite IOP and case management for women who have recently completed treatment and maintained 30 days of sobriety, with preference for those experiencing homelessness. They also run six-month outpatient programs for people on probation or parole, jail-based programming that uses Moral Reconation Therapy along with trauma, parenting, and anger management work, and early intervention education for teens with drug- or alcohol-related offenses.
