About Communicare Inc
Communicare is a community mental health center serving eight counties in Kentucky’s Lincoln Trail region, including a clinic in Brandenburg. Founded in 1967, they provide behavioral health, substance use, and developmental disability services, with a sliding fee scale based on income and family size so no one is turned away for inability to pay. At the Brandenburg clinic, people of all ages can receive individual, family, or group therapy, alcohol and drug counseling, and psychiatric assessment and care, backed by a crisis line staffed around the clock. Brandenburg also hosts their Community Substance Abuse Program, a six-month outpatient program for referred individuals on probation or parole.
Across the wider region, their substance use services include an 18–24 month office-based opioid treatment program in Elizabethtown that combines medication with therapy for co-occurring mental health concerns. Women have several dedicated options: EAST Center, a CARF-accredited 28-day residential program for pregnant, postpartum, and parenting women where qualifying mothers can keep a child with them; Passages, subsidized transitional housing in Hardin County with onsite IOP and case management; and EasternCare, a recovery residence for mothers with a history of opioid use. Programs like the W.O.M.E.N. Project and KY Moms MATR address substance use alongside domestic violence, barriers to employment, and prenatal health. For younger people, an Early Intervention Program and a Zero Tolerance program serve court-referred teens and drivers under 21 with alcohol- or drug-related offenses, offering education and referrals to counseling when needed.
