About Communicare

Communicare is the community mental health center for North Central Mississippi, serving Water Valley and Yalobusha County along with Calhoun, Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, and Tate counties since 1969. They treat substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and co-occurring disorders for children, teens, and adults, with programs certified by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health. Care ranges from substance use assessments and outpatient individual and group counseling to telehealth and adult residential treatment. They accept Medicaid, Medicare, VA coverage, and most private insurance, offer a sliding fee scale for uninsured people below 200% of the poverty level, and will not turn anyone away for inability to pay.

Their clinicians draw on several evidence-based therapies, including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and trauma-focused approaches such as Cognitive Processing Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and EMDR, which they also use to help manage cravings. Adults who need a higher level of care can enter Haven House, a 48-bed residential program in Oxford that has provided structured counseling and support since 1978. Families can receive support alongside their loved one, and prevention programs reach students and young adults in local schools and colleges. Because Communicare also offers primary care, free hepatitis C testing and treatment, and a 24/7 crisis line, people can address their physical and mental health within the same organization.
