About Communicare

Communicare is the community mental health center for North Central Mississippi, serving Senatobia and the rest of Tate County along with Calhoun, Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, and Yalobusha counties. Since 1969, they have offered mental health care, substance use treatment, primary health care, crisis support, and intellectual and developmental disability services for people of all ages. Their substance use services include assessments, individual and group counseling, outpatient treatment, recovery support, and help for families, with telehealth available for many visits. Uninsured clients under 200% of the poverty level can use a sliding fee scale, most major insurance plans and Medicaid are accepted, and no one is turned away for inability to pay.

Adults who need more structure can be referred to Haven House, Communicare’s 48-bed residential program in Oxford, which has served people from Mississippi and nearby states since 1978. Their co-occurring programs are certified by the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, so substance use and mental health conditions can be treated together. Therapists use approaches such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy, along with trauma-focused methods like cognitive processing therapy, accelerated resolution therapy, and EMDR, which can also help with managing cravings. They also run prevention programs for children, teens, and college-aged young adults, and they staff a 24/7 crisis line for urgent situations.
