About CODAC Behavioral Healthcare
CODAC Behavioral Healthcare in East Providence, Rhode Island, is part of a nonprofit network of outpatient opioid treatment programs that has served the state since 1971 and was among the first nonprofits in the country to offer methadone treatment. They focus on substance use disorders, especially opioid use disorder, and also treat gambling disorder and co-occurring mental health concerns. Care is delivered through medication-assisted treatment, general outpatient counseling, and an intensive outpatient program. Access is a priority: they offer admission upon request, so people can walk in, be seen the same day, and leave with medication to last until their next appointment.
Patients can choose among all FDA-approved medications for addiction, including methadone, buprenorphine (Suboxone), Sublocade, oral naltrexone, and injectable naltrexone (Vivitrol), always paired with supportive counseling and behavioral therapy. The intensive outpatient track runs about four to six weeks with at least nine hours of individual and group sessions weekly, while general outpatient care combines scheduled counseling with drug and alcohol testing and encourages family involvement. Additional options include acu-detox ear acupuncture, therapeutic massage, mental health and psychiatric care, tobacco cessation, and motivational interviewing. Every patient is screened for problem gambling, with on-site specialist counseling and Rhode Island Lottery funding covering treatment for those who are uninsured or underinsured, and staff help coordinate scheduling and transportation when someone needs a referral to a higher level of care.
