About Choctaw Nation

The Choctaw Nation Recovery Center in Talihina, Oklahoma, is a residential substance use disorder program run by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. Located near the Choctaw Nation Health Care Center, they offer an intensive three-month residential stay for men 18 and older, staffed by licensed and certified clinicians. Admission requires a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) from a federally recognized tribe. Choctaw members may live anywhere, but members of other tribes must reside within the Choctaw reservation. Court-related referrals are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Treatment combines individual counseling, group therapy, and family counseling with 12-step education, relapse prevention, and practical coping skills work. A ropes course adds an experiential, hands-on element to the program. To get started, the person seeking care completes a phone screening that the treatment team reviews. Approved applicants then receive an application packet, and once it is returned they are placed on a waiting list for an open bed.
