About Chemical Addictions Recovery Effort
Chemical Addictions Recovery Effort (CARE) is a not-for-profit agency serving Florida’s Panhandle, and their Alford location houses A Woman’s Addiction Recovery Effort (AWARE), a CARF-accredited residential program for women with alcohol and drug problems. AWARE was built around the stigma many women face when seeking help for addiction, and they offer a therapeutic and educational setting where women can work through it. They provide residential treatment, a halfway program, and a Mother Infant Program that lets babies stay with their mothers during care. Across the wider organization, CARE also provides detox, outpatient, medication-assisted treatment, DUI, prevention, and care coordination services, with attention to co-occurring mental health conditions.
Residential treatment at AWARE lasts at least eight weeks, and the halfway phase adds roughly three months of continued support. The Mother Infant Program typically runs about six months and can extend to a year, with added case management for participating mothers. Counselors use integrated, evidence-based approaches that address substance use and mental health together, and CARE treats family involvement and education as central to recovery. Their care coordination team relies on High-Fidelity Wraparound, WRAP planning, peer support, and motivational interviewing, uses warm hand-offs between levels of care, and can connect clients to medication-assisted treatment with Vivitrol or Suboxone at no cost.
