About Chemical Abuse Services Agency Inc
Chemical Abuse Services Agency Inc., known as CASA, is a CARF-accredited community behavioral health organization serving New Haven and Bridgeport, Connecticut, with addiction treatment and recovery services for individuals and families. Their approach is rooted in culture and identity, recognizing how race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, family, and history shape each person’s recovery, with particular attention to LGBTQ+, Black, and Latino communities. In New Haven, their Multicultural Ambulatory Addiction Services (MAAS) program offers medication-assisted treatment for opioid addiction alongside an intensive outpatient day treatment program. Services are available in English and Spanish, walk-ins are welcome, and they accept most Medicaid plans and don’t turn anyone away solely because they can’t pay.
The medication-assisted treatment program pairs methadone or buprenorphine with individual and group therapy, psychiatric evaluation and follow-up, case management, family counseling, and primary care and testing. Day treatment is built around each person’s clinical needs and life circumstances, combining therapy, recovery coaching, care coordination, psychiatric services, and toxicology screening. Clinicians work on the trauma, shame, isolation, and low self-worth that often sit beneath substance use, and they draw on family, cultural traditions, and spiritual resources to support healing. CASA also runs supportive housing for adult men in Bridgeport, including a 14-bed recovery house with an average stay of about 90 days and a 10-bed residence for men living with HIV who are experiencing homelessness.
