About Centre
Centre in Grand Forks, North Dakota, is one location of Centre, Inc., a nonprofit that has served the state since 1976. They pair a male residential reentry program for justice-involved individuals with a substance use disorder residence and a 24/7 behavioral health stabilization center. Their approach rests on evidence-based correctional practices and a firm belief that people can change, using positive reinforcement and progressive discipline to build accountability. Services here cover structured transitional housing, a supportive residence for men in substance use treatment through the Northeast Behavioral Health Clinic, short-term crisis residential care, non-medical withdrawal management, and a walk-in drop-in center.
Residents work with staff to create an individual performance plan and receive one-on-one case management, addiction and mental health counseling, substance use assessments, drug and alcohol testing, and help finding work. Group curricula include Thinking for a Change, a cognitive-behavioral program, and Seeking Safety, which addresses trauma alongside substance use. The Free Through Recovery and Community Connect programs offer community-based recovery and care coordination with peer support, and Free Through Recovery is designed specifically for people on parole or probation. At the stabilization center, withdrawal support is built on peer and social support rather than medical detox, with transfers to a higher level of care when needed, and no one is turned away for inability to pay.
