About Central City Health
Central City Health is a nonprofit, federally qualified community health center in Detroit that has served residents of Detroit and Wayne County since the early 1970s. They bring primary and pediatric care, dental care, mental health services, and substance use disorder treatment together with supportive housing, employment help, and community re-entry services, all under one organization. Their approach is built on whole-person care and a “no wrong door” philosophy, with outpatient addiction services that include counseling, case management, advocacy, and peer support. They offer a sliding fee discount for medical and dental care, they turn no one away for inability to pay, and established patients can get transportation to appointments.
New patients start with an Access clinician, who assesses their needs and connects them to the right mix of services from the first visit. People living with both mental illness and substance use can enter the Integrated Dual Disorder Treatment program, which blends psychological, educational, and social interventions to support sobriety, symptom management, and goals like stable housing and steady income. For those who need more intensive support, the Assertive Community Treatment team brings round-the-clock, multidisciplinary care into a person’s home and community, with staff trained in psychiatry, nursing, social work, substance use, and vocational rehabilitation. Other offerings include psychiatric evaluation, medication management, individual and group therapy, Cognitive Enhancement Therapy, and outpatient mental health care for young people ages 6 to 21.
