About Central Behavioral Health
Central Behavioral Health is a nonprofit community behavioral health organization in Norristown, Pennsylvania, that has served Montgomery County residents since 1949, with an additional outpatient site in the Abington area. They support children, adolescents, adults, and seniors dealing with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and co-occurring challenges, and they offer services in Spanish as well as English. Their adult services include outpatient therapy and medication management, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), medication-assisted treatment (MAT), recovery coaching, case management, and certified peer support. New clients can get a same-day intake assessment in person or by telehealth on weekdays, which helps people start care without sitting on a waitlist.
The IOP is group-based and open to adults in eastern or central Montgomery County who have Magellan HealthChoices coverage or who qualify for county funding. It runs separate tracks for mental health, life skills, and co-occurring disorders. Participants can attend a single group each week or three or more for the full program, with topics such as relapse prevention, trauma, grief and loss, emotional regulation, DBT skills, music therapy, and women’s empowerment. In individual, family, and group therapy, clinicians draw on cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and SBIRT, while a dedicated adult DBT program pairs weekly individual sessions and skills groups with between-session coaching for people who struggle with intense emotions or self-harm and can commit to at least six months.
