About Cenikor Foundation

Cenikor Foundation is a nonprofit behavioral health organization that has served Texas communities since 1967, and in Houston they offer care for both adults and teens. For adults, the Houston location provides a full continuum that includes detox, inpatient drug rehab, intensive outpatient treatment (IOP), and recovery housing for men, with substance use and mental health needs addressed together. Many of their team members are in recovery themselves, and they make a point of treating people other programs might turn away. Cost is a central concern for them: they work with more than 30 insurance carriers, including most Texas and New Mexico Medicaid plans, and also accept self-pay.

During detox, licensed nurses monitor patients around the clock and use standardized withdrawal scales such as CIWA-Ar for alcohol and COWS for opioids to adjust medical care as symptoms change. Treatment builds on a therapeutic community model of structure and accountability, combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed care, relapse prevention, and ongoing Recovery Support Services after discharge. Teens ages 13 to 17 attend the Odyssey House youth program, where residential stays typically last 30 to 90 days, an on-site accredited school keeps students on track academically, and families join scheduled sessions when appropriate. Odyssey House also offers in-person and virtual outpatient care with case management, and Cenikor runs a dedicated track for active duty service members and veterans and holds CARF accreditation.
