About Catholic Charities
Catholic Charities Worcester County is a Catholic social service agency in Worcester, Massachusetts, founded in 1951 by the city’s first bishop, and their addiction treatment program is Crozier House, a residential recovery home for men 18 and older that has operated since 1971. Crozier House is licensed by the state’s Bureau of Substance Addiction Services as a Residential Recovery Service, with a voluntary stay that typically runs three to six months. The program suits men who are ready to commit to daily sobriety and to living within a disciplined, cooperative community as they work toward sober housing or independent living. In keeping with the agency’s broader mission, they do not turn away qualified applicants because of race, creed, sexual orientation, disability, or inability to pay.
Daily life at Crozier House centers on responsibility and accountability: residents hold jobs, pay rent, meet regularly with an assigned counselor, and attend Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous meetings while staying sober in the house. The staff work with outside agencies and insurance companies to tailor each resident’s plan, and they draw on federal substance use disorder subsidies to help cover costs. Men usually arrive through referrals from detox units, clinical stabilization programs, transitional support services, other community programs, or the courts and correctional facilities, with which the program has close ties. Applying involves forms completed by both the individual and a case manager, along with a signed consent form that is required for the application to be considered.
