Carey Counseling Center is a nonprofit community behavioral health center serving Trenton and the wider Northwest Tennessee region, and they have provided care since 1970. Their work centers on person-centered, compassionate support for individuals and families, with outpatient counseling for addiction alongside anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, bipolar disorder, and other mental health conditions. Substance use services include alcohol and drug evaluations and treatment as well as DUI classes, and adults in crisis can reach 24-hour crisis response and mobile crisis services. No one is turned away because of age, background, disability, or inability to pay, and fees for essential services can be reduced based on household size and income.

Care begins with a diagnostic intake assessment that shapes an individualized treatment plan, and clients may receive individual therapy (offered for adults, adolescents, and children), group therapy, psychiatric evaluations, and medication management. Their team includes a board-certified psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioners, licensed clinical social workers, and licensed counselors, and they use evidence-based approaches such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Wraparound supports include case management, adult peer support, Tennessee Health Link care coordination, and a liaison for people whose mental health needs intersect with the criminal justice system. For adults with severe mental illness and co-occurring medical conditions who receive TennCare, they also run supportive living and medically fragile residences with a step-up path toward independent living.
