CARE Hawaii, Inc. is a behavioral health organization serving Wailuku and communities across Maui, Oahu, the Big Island, and Kauai. Since 1999, they have provided outpatient care for people living with mental illness, developmental delays, and substance-related problems, with a focus on teaching clients and their families the skills to handle life’s challenges. Their services include community-based case management, day treatment, partial hospitalization, aftercare, and several levels of adult residential care. Most programs are designed for adults with serious mental illness, including those who also struggle with alcohol or drug use.

Their Day Treatment program addresses mental illness and addiction together while clients continue living at home. It combines group counseling, education, skill building, recreational therapy, and family services, and graduates can move into aftercare groups that reinforce relapse prevention. For people who need more support, the medically supervised Partial Hospitalization Program offers intensive sessions centered on crisis stabilization, coping skills, and medication management. On Oahu, a small residential program of up to six months treats adults with co-occurring disorders with 24-hour monitoring and support for staying abstinent. Case management, psychiatric and nursing care, and Medicaid-funded housing assistance help clients stay stable in the community.
