About Caminar

Caminar is a nonprofit behavioral health organization with more than 60 years of service, and their Palo Alto presence includes the Caminar Teen and Family Wellness Center, a private-pay program for youth and families. Across San Mateo, Santa Clara, San Francisco, Solano, Contra Costa, and Butte counties, they work with children, teens, adults, and families whose mental health and substance use challenges often overlap with physical health, housing, and employment needs. Their substance use care centers on outpatient treatment, with sober living homes available for people who need a stable, substance-free place to live while in recovery.

Alongside addiction services, they offer counseling, psychotherapy, psychiatry, medication management, and case management that connects clients with community resources. Specialized options include cognitive behavioral intervention services, counseling for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals and families, expressive arts, and LGBTQIA+ education and support. Wraparound help such as supported housing, job training, vocational rehabilitation, and supported education addresses the practical pressures that can make recovery harder to sustain. They accept Medi-Cal, private pay, and a sliding fee scale, and services are available in several languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Tagalog, Farsi, and American Sign Language.
