About Calvert County Behavioral Health
Calvert County Behavioral Health is the substance use treatment arm of the Calvert County Health Department, serving residents from several sites across the county, including one in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. They work with adolescents, young adults, and adults, including people managing both a substance use disorder and a mental health condition. Care starts with a comprehensive behavioral health assessment and can include standard outpatient counseling, an intensive outpatient program, and buprenorphine treatment for opioid use. When someone needs a higher level of care, they refer to inpatient programs and other community services.
Treatment combines individual, group, and family counseling with alcohol and drug education, plus urinalysis and breathalyzer testing. Adolescents are treated apart from adults, and young adults usually have their own groups unless their substance use or legal history calls for a different placement. People come voluntarily, through a provider referral, or by court order, and the program also delivers services inside the county detention center and in local schools. Beyond clinical care, peer recovery support specialists with lived experience help clients set their own recovery goals, build healthier routines, and connect with community resources, and job search help is offered on site by appointment. Medicaid, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, and most major insurance plans are accepted, and people without coverage may qualify for income-based assistance.
