About Buckelew Programs

Buckelew Programs is a nonprofit behavioral health organization serving Santa Rosa and the wider North Bay, offering addiction treatment alongside mental health counseling, supported housing, and suicide prevention. Since 1970, they have focused on people with low or no income who face the biggest barriers to care, and they do not turn anyone away because they can’t pay. Their substance use services include clinically managed detox, residential treatment, sober living, and ongoing alumni support, with tailored recovery plans for clients who also have co-occurring psychiatric conditions. Most programs accept Medi-Cal, including Partnership HealthPlan and Kaiser Permanente Medi-Cal, and many also accept private pay.

In Santa Rosa, the Orenda Center provides co-ed, non-medical detox with 24-hour structure, usually for three to five days, and prescreening is available around the clock. Athena House offers 30- to 90-day residential treatment for up to 14 women and can make room for two children under age 5. After residential care, women can move to Hope Village for up to 18 months, while Housing for Hope serves single men and fathers with young children. Throughout their programs, counselors and alumni who have been through recovery themselves provide nonjudgmental support, and Buckelew also runs Marin County options such as the Helen Vine Recovery Center and the Rising Recovery Center for co-occurring disorders.
