About Bristlecone Family Resources
Bristlecone Family Resources is a private non-profit addiction treatment agency in Reno, Nevada, serving Washoe County and surrounding rural communities for nearly 60 years. Their focus is on reaching people who might otherwise go without care, using a strengths-based, needs-driven approach to substance use, problem gambling, and co-occurring mental health conditions. They offer a broad continuum that includes social model detox, residential treatment, transitional living, intensive outpatient, standard outpatient, aftercare, and targeted case management. Each client works from an individualized treatment plan, and families are brought into the process.
Residential care is meant for people who are past the risk of withdrawal but need distance from their current surroundings, with stays typically lasting four to six weeks within a structured therapeutic community that includes individual and group counseling, education, occupational groups, and recreational therapy. Intensive outpatient provides at least nine hours of therapy per week, often for an initial period of about two weeks, while standard outpatient offers one to eight hours weekly across a wide range of days and times for those balancing jobs or other commitments. The transitional living program gives clients sober housing as they readjust to daily life, and eligible residents can get help preparing to return to the workforce. Since 2006, their Gambling Addiction Treatment and Education (GATE) program has offered certified problem gambling counselors, individual and family counseling, and gambling-specific groups on topics such as cross addiction, relapse prevention, and legal and financial issues.
