About Brighter Heights Maine

Brighter Heights Maine is a community-based behavioral health organization founded in 2010 that serves children, teens, adults, and families across Maine, including the Belfast area. Their work is built on a trauma-informed, strength-based model, and they offer care in their offices, in community settings, and in clients’ homes. For substance use, they provide outpatient services that include substance use counseling, diagnostic assessments, and an Opioid Health Home offering medication-assisted treatment for people using opioids. Some services are available by telehealth, and they accept MaineCare as well as self-pay by credit card or certified check.

In the Opioid Health Home, each client works with an assigned nurse and doctor to build a medication-assisted recovery plan, then sees the doctor monthly while receiving regular counseling, support from trained recovery coaches, and general case management. Their outpatient therapists are trained in trauma-focused approaches and offer individual, couples, and family counseling, which can help when relationships have been strained by addiction. A nurse practitioner provides medication management for co-occurring concerns such as anxiety, depression, panic, attention difficulties, and trauma, with follow-up visits to adjust treatment. Adults can also join a Behavioral Health Home, where a team that includes a care manager, peer support specialist, psychologist, nurse, and doctor helps connect them with housing, medical care, and other community resources.
