About Brien Center

The Brien Center is a community-based nonprofit in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, with more than a century of history providing mental health care, addiction treatment, and crisis services to individuals and families across Berkshire County. They view addiction as a chronic but treatable health condition, much like diabetes or asthma, and they welcome people whether this is their first attempt at recovery or one of many. Their continuum includes 24/7 crisis response, outpatient and intensive outpatient treatment, recovery residences, and supportive housing, and they serve children, adolescents, adults, and families. Most public and private insurance plans are accepted, and a sliding fee scale is available for people without coverage.

Care is individualized, strength-based, and client-directed, combining individual, group, and family therapy with psychiatric care, medication management, and medication-assisted treatment, along with integrated support for co-occurring mental health conditions. Their residential options include Keenan House for Men, which offers structured daily programming in early sobriety, and Keenan House North in North Adams, which provides clinical services for people with co-occurring disorders in a home-like setting. The Safe Harbor program helps families affected by substance use rebuild relationships and stability through housing and reunification support. For urgent needs, their Community Behavioral Health Center offers same-day intake, mobile crisis teams for all ages, peer support, and an adult crisis stabilization program at Pomeroy House that serves as an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization.
