About BHC Mesilla Valley Hospital
Mesilla Valley Hospital is a behavioral health hospital in Las Cruces, New Mexico, that has served the region since 1987 and treats mental health conditions alongside co-occurring drug and alcohol addiction for children, adolescents, and adults. For adults, they offer a short-term, medically managed inpatient dual-diagnosis program that includes detox. They also run two adult partial hospitalization programs, one centered on chemical dependency and one on mental health, and both address co-occurring disorders. Young people have their own options: acute inpatient care for ages 7 to 17 for crisis stabilization, and a day program for teens ages 13 to 17.
Adult addiction treatment is individualized and draws on motivational enhancement, cognitive behavioral therapy, interactive journaling, and 12-step facilitation, with on-site AA and NA meetings. Patients take part in individual, group, and family therapy, along with specialty groups covering military life, trauma, men’s and women’s issues, and healthy relationships, while working on triggers, cravings, and relapse prevention. Before discharge, the team builds an aftercare plan with input from family or outside providers and helps connect patients with local AA or NA groups and a sponsor. The hospital is TRICARE-certified and serves active duty service members, veterans, and their families. The adolescent day program meets five days a week and coordinates with each teen’s school to keep their studies on track.
