About Beacon House
Beacon House is a nonprofit transitional living program in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, for women, including mothers with children, who are recovering from alcohol and other substance use disorders. Their focus is helping women continue treatment in a supervised, home-like residence where children can stay with their mothers, with the aim of interrupting the generational cycle of addiction. Total abstinence is the primary goal, and recovery is built around the Twelve Steps and attention to a woman’s mental, physical, emotional, social, and spiritual health. Staff and trained volunteers provide round-the-clock supervision, and most residents stay about 90 to 120 days, typically arriving through a referring agency.
Each woman takes an active part in shaping her own individualized plan, which combines group therapy, individual counseling, weekly progress reviews, and a relapse prevention plan. Specialty groups address spirituality, domestic violence, eating concerns, relationship issues, and anger management, while parenting classes and interactive family groups support moms and their kids together. Residents also work on life skills and money management, and they receive employment or vocational counseling along with connections to other community services. Families can join a monthly Saturday education session and visit on weekend afternoons, and medications are secured and monitored under the direction of a medical director.
