About Beacon Center
Beacon Center in Rome, New York, runs an opioid treatment program that provides methadone alongside counseling, and they are part of a private substance use and mental health provider with nine outpatient sites across Central and Western New York. Faith Peterson founded the organization in 1990 on the belief that people with substance use and mental health disorders can recover and deserve care that protects their dignity. That philosophy still guides their goal of delivering effective treatment at the least intrusive level possible. In Rome, medical and clinical staff evaluate each person to decide whether methadone is a good fit, and dosing is available early in the morning on weekdays and Saturdays.
Beyond methadone, their medication-assisted treatment includes buprenorphine (Suboxone) and monthly Vivitrol injections for opioid use disorder, as well as naltrexone for alcohol use disorder, all overseen by a clinic physician. Across their network, outpatient care begins with a detailed psychosocial assessment and may include toxicology testing, intensive outpatient treatment, and an alternative-to-inpatient option. Specialized tracks serve adolescents, young adults, men, women, families, trauma survivors, people facing repeated relapse, and those involved with the criminal justice system, while the Compass Program treats co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions together. Peer specialists who draw on their own recovery experience support patients at every stage, from first contact through transition planning and continuing care.
