About Barrow County Clinic

Barrow County Clinic in Winder, Georgia, is part of Advantage Behavioral Health Systems, the publicly funded community service board serving Barrow and nine other Northeast Georgia counties. They focus on uninsured and underinsured people living with serious mental illness, substance use disorders, or intellectual and developmental disabilities, and they take a person-centered approach to treatment and recovery support. The broader network includes addictive disease services, clinic-based care, crisis stabilization, residential programs, youth services, and justice programs. They are CARF-accredited and are shifting to a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic model that coordinates behavioral and physical health care.

In Barrow County, people with the most serious needs may qualify for Assertive Community Treatment, a psychiatrist-led team that works with clients in the community around the clock. That team includes a certified addictions counselor and offers individual counseling, DBT, and addiction-focused groups, while a separate Community Support Team helps people build daily living skills and connect with resources such as AA. For a more structured setting, the network’s Classic City Recovery program in Athens provides ASAM Level 3.5 residential treatment for adults, typically lasting about six weeks, and gives priority to pregnant women and people who inject drugs. Clients can also use supported employment based on the IPS model, which turns no one away, as well as transitional and permanent supportive housing programs for those facing homelessness.
