B and D Integrated Health Servs East is part of B & D Integrated Health Services, a nonprofit North Carolina health center that combines primary care with mental health and substance use treatment, listed here for Goldsboro. Founded in 2005 by Lauren Durant, PhD, a clinical psychologist and addictionologist trained at Duke, they build care around the individual and their family, with attention to culture and a reliance on evidence-based methods. They work with adults, children, and teens facing mental illness, co-occurring substance use disorders, and chronic health conditions. Services include a substance abuse intensive outpatient program, individual and group therapy, psychiatric medication management, and community-based support teams.

Recovery support goes beyond therapy sessions: certified peer specialists with their own lived experience of addiction or mental illness mentor adults working toward recovery, and a dedicated care manager helps coordinate medical, behavioral, housing, food, and transportation needs under one plan of care. Because primary care is built in, clients can get physicals, screenings, and chronic disease management alongside their behavioral health treatment, while children and teens can receive pediatric care, intensive in-home services, and family therapy. Cost is kept low on purpose, with Medicaid, Medicare, uninsured, and underinsured clients welcomed, a sliding fee scale of $25 to $160 per visit, and most behavioral health services offered free to households at or below 300% of the federal poverty level. Established clients also have access to an after-hours crisis and nurse line, and patients hold seats on the organization’s board of directors.
